Music, Mime, Mayhem -- Musical Theatre
Tony
Williams and Dennis Clare have been combining their talents on and off over
the last twenty years. However, in 1995 they formed a business partnership (Watercloset
Productions ) which saw them working together on a full time basis.
With the advent of Watercloset they wrote and produced their own original show 'The Umbrella Man' which ran for a season at the Lighthouse theatre and was featured as a new work at the Stables theatre in Kings Cross. The show was a unique blend of song, mime, comedy and visual theatre about an old man and the history that shaped him.
Since 1989 Dennis Clare has been using air-conditioning ducting as a visual apparatus and in 1990 he devised a performance piece that was featured at the NSW art gallery for the surrealist exhibition. Since then ‘the Slinky’ as it's called has been a trademark of his work and underpinned with Williams' original music is used to great effect in their performances. In 1996 Tony and Dennis created the show 'Slink' which ran at Eastside Arts centre at Paddington.
Since then Tony and Dennis have been performing throughout Australia and overseas at festivals, concerts, clubs, schools and corporate events.
To see Williams and Clare perform is to recognise the unique combination of two gifted artists . On their own they are consummate professionals, Tony being a respected singer and songwriter with chart success overseas and Dennis as a gifted mime and performance artist having performed at major festivals throughout the world including World Expo in 1988. Tony and Dennis continue to develop their writing and performing with new shows for children including 'Gulp' and 'When Vegetables Attack'.
